Jurg The Nature Gnome
Background
Jurg is a toy designed to increase childrens’ interest in plants and the outdoors. The toy functions as a way for children to pick up common yard plants and attach them to Jurg’s hat; it’s a fun way to “dress him up.” Instead of modeling a traditional doll with clothes that will inevitably end up in a land full, Jurg encourages children to go outside, be curious and learn about the plants they are finding; all while decreasing consumption.

Flat PackagingI designed the packing to mimick a folk story book that can be used to store the specimen sheets that the usercompletes throughout their adventures with Jurg. I wanted the packaing to be sustainable as well and have multiple uses instead of just being thrown away.
Process workMy process included mood boarding to gather references on the illustration style and decide how to make the packaging fit the whimsical feeling I wanted the toy to create while keeping functionality. I then found real world references of gnome packaging and book boxes.
