Jurg is a nature gnome toy designed to get kids outside and interested in plants. The function of the toy is for kids to pick stems of common yard plants and put them in the holes in Jurg’s hat to “dress him up”. I hoped this could be a fun twist on a traditional doll that you have to buy more clothes for and that will inevitably end up in a land fill somewhere. I also thought it encouraged kids to go outside and explore their yard, neighborhood, park, etc. I paired the “dress up” idea with a learning feature of the magnified glass and blank papers for kids to fill out while they “discover” new plants. Jurg encourages kids to get outside and educate themselves on nature while decreasing consumption.

Jurg next to his book box that he comes in. The box is meant to be reusable as a place to store him and the papers children will fill out with new plants they find!
